Ethiopia made history last Wednesday night by sending an all-female crew on a flight from Addis Ababa to Bangkok, Thailand.
Ethiopian Airlines CEO, Tewolde GebreMariam, spoke on the historic event saying “this is an opportunity to inspire young African female students to believe in their dreams and embark to fill the skill gap for Aviation professionals”
The flight is being handled by women in every aspect – from planning, to aircraft maintenance, and from the pilots to air traffic controllers. Even upon arrival in Bangkok, all customs and immigration officers will be female. The flight was the first in the 70-year history of the airline.
Ethiopian Airlines says about one third of its employees are women. But the number is smaller when it comes to positions such as pilots and technicians.
We hope this serves as a source of inspiration to all Nigerian ladies and women.
